We are delighted to share our contribution for the Fedrigoni 365/2022 project; a celebration of contemporary design and designers and the possibilities of paper and print. Each contributor is allocated a random date in the year to create a visual response. There are key dates in history that resonate with us; either because they mark significant world events, famous births or moments of celebration. Historical events can provide a platform for creative ideas and visual connections, alternatively, some designers choose to respond in a purely aesthetic way.
Our day is 28th October, a quiet day in the history of the world despite being Julia Roberts' birthday. We had two key ideas - the first one was that rabbits have 28 teeth and using a mixture of Roman numerals and drawing, we took a playful approach to an idea. Then we started thinking of the bingo call signs - two and eight, in a state. The most visually recognisable of the American states is Texas, which was the twenty-eighth state to join the union. Presenting the typography in two contrasting typefaces set tightly together represents an alternative reading of 'in a state'; a moment of tension and stress.
